ICC EUROPE MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, 25 June 2014
An exciting series of matches in the Pepsi ICC Europe Division 2 sees the tournament head into the last day with five teams still in the race for promotion. Norway the only unbeaten team top the table with three wins out of three with Austria and Belgium following closely behind with two wins each. Germany have failed to secure a point and are the only side out of the promotion race, whilst both Gibraltar and Isle of Man have one win to their name and remain outside contenders. There have been a series of standout individual performances in a closely fought competition, highlighted by Belgium’s Abdul Rehman making 73 runs with some fine striking off 30 balls in Belgium’s 46 run victory over the Isle of Man, and Luke Lacey of Isle of Man claiming 6 for 34 in their 12 run victory over Germany.
The tournament kicked off at Essex’s County Ground in Chelmsford on Monday with a festival of cricket and tournament ambassador and Essex professional Ryan Ten Doeschate helping to promote the event. The former Dutch professional cricketer who represented the Netherlands at both One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) level and was named as the ICC Associate Player of the Year on a record three occasions, in 2008, 2010, and 2011, interacted with schools and the players and took part in some of the cricketing fun operated by Cricket Factory.
