Last summer, we announced the creation of an Austrian A-Team. We are now in a position to take this further in 2015 with trials, an international tournament and a tour to the UK all in the planning.
The Austria A-Team will act as an extension to the youth SNASY Academy and will further strengthen our future National Team.
Coaching will be headed and led by Oscar Wanigasekera and he will be supported byMarcel Biersteker. The aim is to select and develop around 20 exceptional young players, who have the potential to be key contributors to the National Teams of the future.
Selection will be based on a trial on 1st May and on performances for clubs. As it is focused on the future, only players up to the age of 27 will be eligible and selection will be based purely on ability and potential. As with the other SNASY initiatives, this program is supported by the Austria Cricket Association – Österreich Cricket Verband and will obviously include close working and collaboration with the Austrian National Team.
Club Chairman and Representatives have been asked to nominate players from their club for the trial. As before, the SNASY Academy may also nominate players from their group of players, after discussions with their Club Representatives.
Prior to the trial, ALL nominated players will be invited to attend two training sessions to give all players a chance to loosen up and get back into the swing after the long winter break.
The trial will take place on Friday 01/05/15 – the date has been chosen so as to avoid conflict with league matches. The trial will start at 13:00 and will include some basic training, nets and a trial match.
The selected players will train together regularly and will play in fixtures that will provide appropriate levels of challenge. There are already plans in place for an International Tournament in July in Vienna and a tour to the UK in August.
We believe this is another great opportunity for Austria Cricket and for its young players!
